Lithgow Correctional Centre is a maximum-security facility for males located 152km west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains. The centre is in Marrangaroo, which is seven kilometres west of Lithgow on the Great Western Highway.

How to get there

Public transport

Lithgow train station is a 7-kilometre taxi ride from the centre. A bus service (Route 600) runs from the local post office to the Correctional Centre on Saturdays.

Private transport

The centre is signposted from the Great Western Highway. Parking is available at the centre.

Bookings

Bookings for video and in-person visits are required and can be made by booking through JustConnect only. The centre does not take any bookings via the phone.

Digital driver license

Lithgow Correctional Centre is unable to accept NSW Digital Drivers Licenses from visitors as a form of identity.

In-person visit times

In-person visits (when restrictions are not in place) will take place on Saturday and Sunday

• Saturday 9:00am and 10:00am (1, 2, 3 and 4 Unit) and 11:00am (6 Unit)
• Sunday 9:00am and 10:00am (1, 2, 3 and 4 Unit) and 11:00am (6 Unit)

Video visit times

Video visits take place on Saturday and Sunday (no public holidays) between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

Legal visits

Legal practitioners may visit in person or via teleconference:

• From Monday to Friday between 10:30am and 2:45pm
• On the weekend, between 9am and 11:30am or between 12pm and 2:30pm.

Conditions of entry

Appropriate dress standards

The visits area is a family environment. You must dress appropriately. This generally means clothes must be respectable and not too provocative.

You cannot wear anything that hides your face, except for religious reasons. In that case you will be asked to remove your face covering temporarily so staff can verify your identity.

Inappropriate dress (PDF, 419.1 KB) includes:

• Clothes that have possibly controversial logos, words or slogans such as:
  • Motorcycle gang 'colours' or gang insignias
  • Logos or symbols associated with drugs or drug paraphernalia or swear words
• Tight or revealing clothing including:
  • Tops and dresses that expose the stomach or chest
  • Swimsuits or skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh
  • Mesh or other "see-through" clothes
  • Clothes that are excessively dirty, ripped or frayed
• Heels higher than 5 centimetres
• Any jewellery other than a plain wedding band, sleepers and studs. This means no engagement ring or any other ring with stones, and no bracelets or necklaces
• Tops or jumpers with a hood
• Hats, scarves or head coverings (excluding religious wear)
• Hair scrunchies or clips. Only single elasticated hair ties are allowed
• Watches, smart watches or activity trackers
• Bare feet.
  

General conditions

• Only a small amount of coins may be taken into the centre for use with the vending machines. 
• If you wish to leave money, educational material or any other article at the reception, so that an officer can deliver it to an inmate, please call before your visit to ask whether or this is allowed.
• Please supply a medical certificate if your medical condition requires a wheelchair, pacemaker or metal plates or joints.
