Families and Friends of Missing Persons Service

Families and Friends of Missing Persons Service provides support to people in NSW who have a missing family member or friend.

We do not search for missing people. If you have concerns for the safety or welfare of a missing person, please make a report at your local police station. For more information, visit the NSW Police Force website.

What support is available?

For families and friends of missing persons, we provide:

  • up to 22 hours of free and confidential counselling
  • information and resources about issues specific to missing persons
  • support and guidance throughout various stages of a missing person’s investigation, including legal and financial matters, and support when a missing person is found.

For service providers working with families and friends of missing persons, we offer information about our service and guidance on referring families or friends.

Who can get support?

You can access information about issues specific to missing persons and get support through various stages of a missing person’s investigation by email or over the phone if you are a:

  • family member or friend of a missing person
  • service provider supporting someone affected by a missing person.

To be eligible for up to 22 hours of free counselling, the missing person must be reported to the police and accepted as a missing persons case. You can then contact us to apply for counselling if you are:

  • an immediate family member of a person who is missing from NSW (or who was last known to live there) and you currently live in Australia
  • an immediate family member of a missing person who has been reported missing interstate or overseas, who usually lives in NSW and you currently live in NSW.

How do I get support?

To apply for counselling and access our other services, please contact us directly.
