About Victims Services
Victims Services, within the Department of Communities and Justice, administers the Victims Rights and Support Act 2013.
We provide access to counselling and financial assistance to victims of violent crime in NSW under the Victims Support Scheme, promote the Charter of Victims Rights and deliver related programs.

Victims Support Scheme
The Victims Support Scheme helps people who are victims of a violent crime in NSW.
If you have been injured by a violent crime, we may be able to help you access counselling, financial assistance for immediate needs and economic loss, funeral expenses and recognition payment.

National Redress Scheme
The National Redress Scheme for Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (the National Redress Scheme) was established in response to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Through the NSW Government’s membership of the National Redress Scheme, we help those who have experienced abuse in connection with a NSW government institution.

Restitution
When a victim of a crime receives financial support under the Victims Rights and Support Act 2013 (VRS Act 2013), the Commissioner of Victims Rights can recover money from a person who has been convicted of the criminal offence, relating to the victim's claim.

Victims Advisory Board
The Commissioner of Victims Rights chairs the Victims Advisory Board, which is established under the Victims Rights and Support Act 2013. The board includes representatives from government agencies and the community, and advises the Minister on policies, consults with victims and relevant groups, and promotes reforms to meet the needs of victims of crime.
