Support for victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist incident on 14 December 2025

Support is available through the Victims Support Scheme and Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment for the families of those who have tragically lost their lives and the victims who have been affected by the terrorist incident at Bondi Beach on 14 December 2025.

Victims Support Scheme

The Victims Support Scheme can provide assistance for the families of those who have lost their lives and those who were physically or psychologically injured during the terrorist incident at Bondi Beach on 14 December 2025.

What support is available

The Victims Support Scheme provides: 

Who can access victims support

The type of support available for those who have been impacted by the acts of violence at Bondi Beach will depend on their situation: 

  • Primary victims who have been injured can access:
    • counselling
    • financial assistance for immediate needs up to $5,000
    • financial assistance for economic loss up to $30,000
    • a recognition payment of either $1,500 or $5,000.
  • Secondary victims who are witnesses can access counselling.
  • A parent, step-parent or guardian of a child who was injured can access counselling and financial assistance for economic loss that directly resulted from the act of violence.
  • Family victims* (an immediate family member of a homicide victim) can access:
    • counselling
    • financial assistance for immediate needs up to $5,000
    • financial assistance for justice-related expenses up to $5,000
    • financial assistance to help with funeral expenses** 
    • Eligible family victims may also receive a recognition payment of either $7,500 or $15,000. 
  • relative of a homicide victim, not considered a family victim, who is affected by the victim’s death (extended family member) can access counselling.

* A family victim includes a:

  • current spouse
  • current de facto partner who was living with the victim when they died and had been living with them for at least 2 years
  • parent, step-parent or guardian
  • child, step-child or guardian child
  • brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, step-brother or step-sister.

** Additional financial support is available to cover the cost of a funeral.

Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment

An additional lump sum payment is available for some victims through the Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment, jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.


Who is eligible for the recovery payment

  • A primary victim as defined in the Victims Rights and Support Act 2013, determined as eligible for a recognition payment under the Victims Support Scheme, who suffered a physical injury from a bullet or shrapnel in the terrorist incident on 14 December 2025 on Bondi Beach (Category 1).
  • A family victim as defined in the Victims Rights and Support Act 2013, determined as eligible for support under the Victims Support Scheme, whose immediate family member was killed in the terrorist incident on 14 December 2025 on Bondi Beach (Category 2).


What support is available through the recovery payment

  • A lump sum payment of $35,000 is available for primary victims (Category 1).
  • A lump sum payment of up to $75,000 is available for the family group of eligible family victims (Category 2). The lump sum payment will be reduced by the value of any individual recognition payments made under the NSW Victims Support Scheme to those family members.


How do I apply for the recovery payment

You don’t need to make a separate application for the Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment.

Eligible victims who apply under the NSW Victims Support Scheme will be considered for the Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment.


How long do I have to apply for the recovery payment

To be eligible for the Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment as a primary victim you must apply for a recognition payment under the Victims Support Scheme by 13 December 2027.

To be eligible for the Bondi Beach Victim Recovery Payment as a family victim you must apply for support under the Victims Support Scheme by 13 December 2027.
